Some of us are quite proud of our ability to bounce back from adversity, getting up off the mat and getting back in the fight. Others realize that life is a constant struggle and accepting that resilience is just an innate quality that we all share. In either case we have to learn daily, to deal with what life throws at us and make the best of it. In Sanskrit our adversaries are explained as: Adhibhautika – miseries inflicted by other living entities, Adhidaivika – miseries inflicted by mother nature, and Adhyatmika – miseries inflicted by our own mind and senses. Life is a perpetual duel between us as individual persons and forces within and outside of us. This is what is discussed in the Dao De Jing (Tao Te Ching), the plight of the spiritual warrior, but as a pacifist, not actually taking up arms to solve difficult issues. Knowledge is ever expanding, but there are many traditional commentaries that offer incredible insights that may guide us in our efforts alone and together to make this life worthwhile!
