Comfort is defined as a state of ease and satisfaction of bodily wants, with freedom from pain and anxiety. The Stoic and Existential thinkers particularly warn about seeking comfort above one’s own personal growth. Thinking about and pursuing comfort robs us of facing the tough realities of life. Life is about choices and if we regularly choose the path of least resistance we will not have the strength to endure when emotional, physical, financial and psychological problems confront us. There is a saying; “just go along to get along”, which will eventually backfire over time. The Greeks, who originated the Olympic Games, sternly put courage above all other qualities. Philosophers generally define courage as a moral virtue that enables individuals to manage fear, endure hardship, and act rightly in the face of danger. It may sound simple and silly, but choosing to rise early when we are not necessarily forced can help us to get better control over our mind and senses and develop courage within us.
