Clarity…

Clarity: clearness or lucidity as to perception or understanding; freedom from indistinctness or ambiguity. Or, a short description; the state or quality of being clear or transparent to the eye. Practically speaking we all want to see clearly and maintain our vision as long as possible. However, clarity is not just about eyesight, but more about how we view the world and especially how it affects us. Walking is a simple method of transcending the onslaught of impressions that bombard us constantly in our media driven environment. The Lyceum, a place where athletes trained, was where Aristotle would walk and talk with his students and they became known as the peripatetics who walked and talked to brainstorm. Friedrich Nietzsche believed that “only thoughts reached by walking have real value.” In the last ten years the idea of 10 minute cities has been particularly developed in Brussels (BXLGIS) and Seoul (Project H1) with the goal of reducing dependence on mechanized transportation and increasing walking and biking. Unfortunately, just walking more and driving less will not necessarily increase our clarity and ability to see clearly. Clear vision and clearly being aware of what is happening in our immediate surroundings and on our planet takes serious and committed effort. Highly focused and successful people spend many hours daily reading, listening and studying to become more conscious to be able to solve theirs and others problems and obstacles.
