Metanarratives are generally employed to gain momentum for a specific ideology. Mass media capitalizes on grand narratives to guide and build their following which usually has a puppet master behind the scenes. The puppet masters vary from oligarchs to multinational industries to governments to religious leaders, etc., and may or may not have the best interests of the masses as their primary concern. Of course, there has to be a certain concern for the masses as otherwise they may revolt, but it doesn’t have to be ‘primary’. In other words, there is an agenda behind mass media which George Orwell was warning us about in his foreboding book ‘1984’. The movie, ‘The Terminator’, released in 1984, also exposed the dangers of modern technology which we are closely watching as Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) is fast approaching. Ironically, in 1985, Mike + the Mechanics released the iconic song ‘Silent Running (On Dangerous Ground)’, again warning humanity that our immediate future is extremely precarious…
