Adjective as in deep in thought. Introspective, meditative, pensive, reflective, and thoughtful. Do we even have or find the time, place and space to engage in pondering? The ability to think abstractly, thought apart from concrete realities, is specifically the advantage or disadvantage that we humans possess. With our ability to think in abstract terms we are exploring outer space while simultaneously creating weapons of mass destruction; quite ironic wouldn’t you say! In either case we experience that those among us who utilize, apply and stretch their power to think and ponder are generally more able to maintain themselves and others around them. However, what we choose to ponder is the critical issue. Are we using our minds and intelligence to advance not only our own interests, but those around us? Or are we simply employing our minds for our own self interest? Ah ha! Now we are getting into ethics, which unfortunately is a subject which has been sadly reduced from our educational systems! Ethics: a system of moral principles. Morals: of, relating to, or concerned with the principles or rules of right conduct or the distinction between right and wrong. Cultures define right and wrong differently so in order to live on our highly connected planet it seems mandatory to familiarize ourselves with the ethics of those we may not agree with and perhaps seek peace instead of strife!
