Rebels, those who resist any authority, control, or tradition. How much more broad could a concept be? We all have a certain degree of rebellious nature within us so at what point is one singled out as dangerous and publicly called out as a ‘Rebel’? A very fine line, no doubt! The American settlers rebelled against their British masters and tax collectors and established a new country. The Indians led by Gandhi rebelled non-violently and eventually led by Subhash Chandra Bose were successful in ridding themselves of their foreign masters. Does history fault these two nations? The earliest metaphysical Chinese concept of Yin/Yang or the theory of opposites, represents the philosophical concept of dualism, describing how seemingly opposing forces — such as light/dark, masculine/feminine, and active/passive — are actually complementary, interconnected, yet independent in the natural world. So tension is inevitable in nature and the challenge for humanity is to keep that tension under control and not let it get out of hand as we say. One term for this is conflict resolution which is essentially another way of saying diplomacy. The famous Frenchman Talleyrand, is regarded as one of the most profound diplomats, however he gets kudos and criticisms for his methods which were generally for peaceful resolutions instead of further wars and suffering.
