Trust: Reliance on the integrity, strength, ability, surety, etc., of a person or thing; confidence. Wow, what a concept! We are challenged perpetually with trust issues. However, most situations we take for granted until there is a glitch in the system. Everyone will stop at a stop sign or redlight until someone doesn’t and then danger ensues and perhaps a deadly wreck. Going to a certified doctor, clinic, or hospital we trust we will be cured until there is a hiccup and we are misdiagnosed and all goes wrong. Printed on the back of all US bank notes is boldly written: In God We Trust, which we assume means these notes will always be legal tender. We trust our politicians who are well paid and accommodated to serve and protect our mutual best interests. We trust in marriage, our educational systems, our banks, our neighbors, etc. The idea of real trust has unfortunately become suspect. If we have ever been broadsided by another car we tend to look twice at intersections. If we or another has ever been misdiagnosed we may doubt doctors and hospitals. The US Dollar has been going down in value year after year. Our politicians, I’ll hold my tongue on that one. Marriage, educators, banks and neighbors are all becoming a throw of the dice. We cannot live in a social environment of this magnitude without a certain degree of trust, however we have to be ever cautious and pragmatic, constantly studying our circumstances to avoid as many reversals as possible that result from over trusting a person or thing…
