We all have a certain degree of momentum or impetus to get out of bed and get on with our day. However, here we are talking about the momentum going in the direction we envision our own lives and goals. Perhaps you are one of the lucky ones who figured out early in life what you wanted and went about attaining it and your path is hunky-dory. Fortunately or unfortunately for me my at age 20 when i set my goals they were i guess imaginary, of a world devoid of wars and a population who lived peacefully and shared resources. There is a Sanskrit phrase; jivo jivasya jivanam, meaning one living entity is the life/food for another. There’s no doubt a great deal of truth as Herbert Spencer introduced the idea of, “the survival of the fittest”, also emphasizing that we all find ourselves in a struggle for our very existence. Yet, having an advanced consciousness, we may choose to give instead of take and be a positive and productive participant in society. This is the momentum that i have struggled with for 55 years; how to be as valuable a member of society as possible and not get sidetracked with my own self preservation and self satisfaction. What can we do from practically our insignificant role as a member of 8 billion humans also struggling to survive? There are obviously a plethora of ways to help others and being a giving person, but one approach that is working for me is simply to be upbeat, positive, enthusiastic and as cheerful as possible, without being silly, which in turn gives me the momentum i desperately need…
