I jumped on the peace train in 1969 during the Vietnam War and have never given up the dream. Unfortunately, the Industrial Revolution introduced mustard gas in the First World War and from then on has gotten increasingly sinister. The Second World War ended with mushroom clouds and the complete annihilation of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Now, on the brink of total world destruction, we use drones and other forms in 5th generation warfare to massacre our fellow humans. Historically men fought face to face and there was honor to a certain degree. Now, warfare has become completely impersonal and technological, with untold outcomes, and we are becoming almost totally desensitized to the ongoing ravages. Stalin supposedly said, “A single death is a tragedy; a million deaths is a statistic!” Metaphysics, the subjective view of reality, evolved into physics or the objective view of reality. With physics has come these technological abilities for extreme material benefits while conversely these abilities for the most heinous forms of devastation and cruelty! We, the masses of humanity, are outside of the control room but at least we can put a positive spin during our existence here and now. Albert Camus called our whole situation absurd and he encouraged us to accept it and be blissful anyway…
