Sheath: A case or covering for the blade of a sword, dagger, or the like. So if something is ‘sheathed’, it is attired, clothed, covered, dressed, garbed, or robed to keep it discreet and less exposed. Just imagine if we all viewed our tongue as a sword or dagger and made a concerted effort to keep it sheathed. Although we have the potential to speak positively and supportively, we also have the ability and potential to say things which have devastating consequences! Discerning the spoken word is extremely difficult to fully comprehend what we have heard. For instance there is the tendency to “cry wolf”, when there is no real danger. Language and the spoken word are definitely a blessing and a curse for humanity. The overwhelming noise of public, private, and social media has created an increasingly contentious atmosphere which we all need to realize can boil over at any moment. Perhaps if we collectively endeavor to control our tongues and pause before we blurt out comments which may not be in ours or others best interests we can turn down the heat…
