Heavy fog… There’s a notion that in classical times everyone is basically on the same page, orderly, and in times of what Jacques Barzun calls ‘Decadence’, there is no common thread among people, more chaotic. What if we look at this politically, that in countries which have some form of so-called ‘democracy’, there’s a fair amount of chaos; while in counties which have a single party government or single religious ideology there is more calm. Freedom allows chaos, while authoritarian leadership forces compliance. Libya in the 21st century is a perfect example. I’m not choosing sides, just pointing out that there are pros and cons to both systems which have been argued ad infinitum. So perhaps we are in an historic period of ‘heavy fog’, where vision is almost nil. As the saying goes, ‘we cannot see the forest for the trees!’ We simultaneously want freedom which allows chaos while also wanting peace and orderliness, the opposite. The One World Government idea has been bandied around since the end of the Soviet Union, but we seem further with more nations desiring nuclear weapons. It’s all very complicated, but consider the most ancient Chinese metaphysical view of opposites or Yin & Yang which are together in a circle. Maybe conflict is just inevitable and is the nature of existence?
