Survival, the natural instinct of organic beings. Interferon is the body’s natural defense against unfavorable viruses, bacteria, or cancer cells. When you feel sick that is the effect of natural interferon making the first line of defense for the body to survive. We are born with a natural defense mechanism and not only physical like interferon, but also psychological. The psychological survival instinct is an innate, unconscious, and fundamental drive for self-preservation, compelling individuals to maintain their existence when facing danger. In Classical Times, before Martin Luther challenged the Absolute Authority of the Vatican, the general rule was that even if you suffered in this life, if you paid your indulgences, your sins would be forgiven and you would survive to live forever in the afterlife. The 16th century ushered in modernity and science and ultimately, to Hegel and Nietzsche, who proclaimed that God is dead, if only metaphorically. In other words, the promise of a joyful afterlife was highly questionable. August 1945 and the complete and utter destruction of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, gave us post-modernity; existentialism and nihilism to wonder are we going to survive as a species and maybe this is it, there is no afterlife to seek. These are esoteric questions that most people, just trying to survive from day to day, don’t have the time or energy to contemplate. However, it is still incumbent on all of us to rally together and rationally solve our differences and not turn to the physical examples of warfare exhibited in 1945 which will have unmentionable destructive results…
