Trailblazers are pioneers, innovators, or leaders who are the first to do something, creating new methods, paths, or ideas for others to follow. Often described as visionaries, they transform obstacles into opportunities, take calculated risks, and break barriers in fields like thought, science, business, or technology. Where would we be without them, perhaps still in the Stone Age! Horace Greeley roused us, “Go west young man, go west”, but even more profoundly stated, “Fame is a vapor, popularity an accident, and riches take wings. Only one thing endures, and that is character.” Greeley founded the New York Tribune which became the nation’s most influential newspaper. He boldly championed the anti-slavery movement in the North, strongly encouraging Lincoln to be more proactive. He was a proponent of women’s rights, labor unions, and improvements in agriculture. His abolitionist views were so strong that he was physically assaulted by a pro-slavery congressman in 1856. We should all be thankful for trailblazers like Horace Greeley who envision a future embracing and encouraging us to venture beyond our close minded inculcated views…
