Sustenance…

Sustenance; means of sustaining or supporting life or health; nourishment, especially food and drink. Without sustenance we cannot survive, period. We are organic living beings sharing our planet earth. This is objective knowledge that for no reason is scarcely taught in school. Wouldn’t it make sense that a major subject, taught from First Grade on, would be Sustainability? In 1987 the UN’s Brundtland Commission published Our Common Future, which popularized the definition of “sustainable development” – meeting present needs without compromising future generations. In 2018 Collins Dictionary named “single use” their word of the year due to increased awareness of plastic pollution and a shift toward sustainable alternatives. 2019: Oxford Dictionary highlighted “Climate Emergency” as a defining phrase, signaling a shift in urgency toward sustainable action. Finally, in 2020, the term saw record levels of usage in corporate, financial, and environmental reporting. If you do a search of how well corporate America is doing since 2020 it is fairly impressive. Of course, the more we face this issue head-on the better, but the numbers are not that shabby. Amazon has been the world’s largest corporate purchaser of renewable energy every year since 2020. If corporations, which are bound to make profit or suffer, are dealing with this serious dilemma, then shouldn’t we, humanity, which will survive or cease to exist become more conscious about our collective sustainability?
