Belief: Confidence in the truth or existence of something not immediately susceptible to rigorous proof. In one way it would seem that our first belief is that we can stand upright and walk and eventually, after so many falls, we prove to ourselves that we can do it. We see that others are walking and through trial and error we are able. So this belief, practically our first through rigorous proof, is in ourselves and our own ability to literally rise up and join the human race which is especially earmarked by its ability to walk on two feet. Unfortunately, as we age and learn to speak and understand language, we allow others to indoctrinate us with beliefs, ideas, and dogmas that we more than likely have not understood through deep study. Generally, our upbringing is in a homogeneous social environment where the norms are generally accepted which reinforces them. Great, with our own personal beliefs we have learned to walk, but now standing, are automatically directed one way or another decided for us, not by us. This is not an attack on beliefs per se, but on how we come to believe and how it affects us over time. From the start of the third millennium, we have been amazingly digitally connected with at least 2/3 of the planet plugged into the internet or WorldWideWeb. This is a truly wonderful achievement of humankind, but we should simultaneously realize that the potential for mass indoctrination and mind control is more prevalent than ever and we should at least revisit George Orwell’s warnings about how things may go astray…
